WEDNESDAY 21 DECEMBER 2016 – Winter Solstice

Journey: Triple L Estate – Calvert Marina fuel docks, Solomons – Island HideAway – Triple L Estate

7867-old-dog-work-boatJust an afternoon out to enjoy the day. The only boats out on the water were work boats.

We first took the opportunity to top up on fuel. We hailed Calvert Marina requesting someone be sent to operate the fuel dock. We only waited a short bit before the fellow arrived. We told him it may be the last time during the winter that we’ll need to stop by. But, who knows.

7903-sidewalk-libraryWe arrived at Island HideAway at around 3:30. We walked in to a very quiet place, only to be told that during the winter they open at 4:00 Monday – Wednesday. Oops. They did say we could just hang out in the restaurant until 4:00. We decided to instead walk around the island and go have a look at the newly re-opened, under new ownership, The Pier restaurant.

I enjoy strolling the island, especially in the winter with its clean bright sunshine.

The Pier has made some wise changes inside – most importantly getting rid of that stupid oyster ice case. It took up soooo much room and really never added any value to the experience.

After having a drink at the Pier we headed back to Island HideAway for dinner. When we left Island HideAway at 4:50, the sun had already set.
