Official Maiden Voyage of “Gurlz Gotta Eat”.
Journey: Triple L Estate – Kingfishers, Solomons Island – Drum Point – Triple L Estate – the Beach – Triple L Estate
Earlier this month Lori had told the neighbor boy we would eventually take him out on the boat. When I returned from overseas, she and I went out on the boat for lunch. When the neighbors returned home from school and saw the boat was gone he was so upset saying we had promised to take him out the next time we went. (Not understanding ‘some time’ did NOT mean ‘next time’.)
As we prepared for the day, we saw the kids outside playing so I told Lori we really needed to take them out, if nothing else, at least go up and around the bridge. Lori went to first ask R, the dad, if it would be ok. Next thing I know Lori comes down to the boat saying the entire family would be joining us. Most excellent.
I found out that J, was more than willing to come with us but his sister would not come along without her dad. When mom, found out that not only were the kids going on the boat but also her husband, she said, “Well I’m going too.”
Since we hadn’t planned on having the name of, ‘Gurlz Gotta Eat’ on the transom in advance, we didn’t plan any special naming ceremony. Although it might have been nice to plan something, I didn’t want to leave port without some sort of christening of the name. Rather than a prolonged speech event, Lori simply said, “I dub you “Gurlz Gotta Eat”,” and broke open the champagne bottle. With that low key ‘ceremony’ we departed on Gurlz Gotta Eat’s maiden voyage.
Having the parents with us meant we didn’t have to be as responsible for the kids. I asked if they would mind going to Kingfishers. They were game – so away we went.
The kids, of course, were delighted to be on the boat – the parents seemed happy, too. We went to Kingfishers for a small snack. After Kingfishers we headed out towards Drum Point to show them where the lighthouse used to sit. As we left the Solomons area we passed Double D as it came in for the day.
After Drum Point we returned home with the family. After they disembarked, Lori and I loaded up Sophie and headed to the Beach. It’s been a long time since we’ve seen P and C. We had a lovely visit with them before finally returning home.
