Journey: Triple L Estate – Solomons Regatta – Triple L Estate
Time: 5:45 pm – 7:45 pm Vessel: 18’ Simmons Sea Skiff replica
Conditions: again, fairly flat; it seems as though you can’t buy wind when it’s time for Wednesday’s regatta
As I approached the regatta area I noticed Coast Guard racing towards Solomons Island. I completely expected them to see me and come check me out. I thought, “Well, at least I’ll know for sure that this boat is also in compliance.” To my surprise, Coast Guard continued on their track to the island. I guess they must have been hungry and wanted to find someplace to eat.
I arrived to the starting line while the boats still mingled around in what I consider a mass of random confusion.
Eventually the race did begin… if you can call it a race. Several boats just bobbed in the water hoping for the occasional puff that might flutter the sails. The course had originally been established as AXAX but it took so long for the boats to make an AX round that the course was shortened to only a single AX run.
